A large commercial bank had many stand-alone legacy product systems that could not communicate with each other.

This was restricting their ability to service clients and they were losing clients and market share across many market segments as a result. They also had substantial operational risk as their client's total credit exposure could not be calculated until days later.

Project

This was a complex project that called for detailed analysis of the needs of the affected businesses and the technical requirements of each of the systems. There was considerable effort focused on obtaining the buy-in of senior management to the benefits of the project and the ability to reduce ongoing future costs.

A sophisticated real-time open architecture and integration platform was developed in conjunction with eight vendors. A small focused development team was set up to implement the project with the vendors. At all times the focus was on delivery and cost. The team worked very closely with the business owners and the real-time integration platform was implemented on time and on budget. 

Result

The project was implemented for about 25% of the cost of some vendor solutions using local development team skills and expertise. Domain knowledge was crucial to the success of this project. The integration platform now supports real-time integration and pricing for the bank's global operations and supports 12 legacy systems. This integration has resulted in an increase in client service, allowing an integrated view of the client's portfolios, client turnover has increased 25% in 18 months.

The cost of integrating a new system has been reduced by 90% and the implementation time has been reduced by 80%.
